A Sip & Slip

I recently went to a networking event. The opportunity for a meet and greet is a fantastic one, but something that I struggle with nonetheless. I don’t think it’s possible for me to be more awkward than when I find myself in attendance.

So I couldn’t have been more grateful that it was at a winery.

I could have a glass of wine in my hand the entire time without looking like a lush. Fast forward two hours, I felt like I had navigated the event successfully. Met some wonderful new people, reconnected with ones that I already knew, and managed to not look like a giant jackass in the process. It was time to go. I started to make my way toward the exit.

Leave on a high note.

When wouldn’t you know, my awkward self reared its ugly head. As I was walking up the stairs my foot caught the bottom of my maxi skirt and I tripped. So graceful and professional. My life flashed before my eyes as I pictured being sprawled out on the stairway with my skirt over my head and a bloody knee.

Thank goodness I caught myself with the handrail before completely wiping out, but not before yelling “Holy shit!”. So much for leaving on a high note.

I immediately heard the words of my mother ringing in my head, “You can’t save your ass and your face at the same time.”

Amen to that.
